Hi Vittor,
Looks like a memory issue. the solver is forcing to use minimum memory..
as a workaround, run the .rad files with out the IMPL/SBCS/OUTCORE parameter in engine file.

Re: Converting MAT 8 to MAT 9
MAT9ORT is available from HyperWorks 11.0 with update 201.
you need update 201 or above in version 11.0 to be able to use the MAT9ORT card.
you can download from http://www.altairhyperworks.com/HWProductDownload.aspx
MAT8 to MAT9 conversion is not directly available in OptiStruct.

Re: Converting MAT 8 to MAT 9
Is it available for any other HW solver?

Re: Converting MAT 8 to MAT 9
You can do it in HyperMath.. But it would be a time expensive process. you have to write in HyperMath and call the same again in OptiStruct will be a long process.

Strain constraint in composite optimization
Hi all,
we want to perform a composite optimization with strain constraint.
As we get error message for the free-size step I wonder if this is possible at all? Ply based modelling approach is used.
Is it not possible to do this with PCOMPP-card? The response is available but seems to be only valid for PCOMP(G) cards.
What would be a possible work-around?
- use a displacement constraint or something appropriate instead
- incorporate strain constraint in second step
Thanks,
Uli

Re: Element forces in each iteration of NLSTAT
Hi Prakash,
I am using optistruct not Radioss, anyway I activated the option - core OUT in the solver and I got the same error #4002.
Any other idea of what could be the problem?
Best regards
Vitor

Thank you very much

Re: Strain constraint in composite optimization
Hi Uli,
composite strain is not allowed as a response in free-size optimization. But you can use composite strain as a response during size optimization.
as a workaround you can use displacement with minimize compliance as responses.

Re: Element forces in each iteration of NLSTAT
Hi Vitor,
for NLGEOM analysis, Radioss is used as solver in the background. So, the .fem file is converted to .rad file.
Please check whether you have <filename>_s1_0000.rad and .0001.rad files in your working directory. if yes, in the .0001.rad file, remove the line IMPL/SBCS/OUTCORE and run using Radioss solver manager.

Re: Element forces in each iteration of NLSTAT
If in case you don't have any line with IMPL/SBCS/OUTCORE in the .0001.rad file, please add the line and check if it converges till the end.
Another workaround is, check the maximum memory used in the .out file. Increase the upper limit to twice the maximum memory in Memory options in OptiStruct panel.

Re: Node Coordinates, Stress in Output Table
Kontrollturm,
Here are some ideas,
One is you can output .pch file from the optistruct run with stress and other results data,
see Altair OptiStruct > Reference Guide > Output Data > List of Files Created by OptiStruct (Alphabetical):
.pch file
this should be in a usable tabular format
Secondly It is possible to ouput data from HyperMesh using TCL scripts,
Please see below images
![Image]()
You need to download the script and then run this script from the downloaded location by going to file > run tcl tk from within HyperMesh.
see http://www.altairuniversity.com/support-forum/?mingleforumaction=viewtopic&t=87
you will find this and other scripts in the altair script exchange, go to learning > script exchange from the altair university website or here http://www.altairhyperworks.com/Script-Exchange.aspx?%3ftop_nav_str=1
you will need to log in with your university mail id and login credentials you get after registering to the client centre.
search for the script by just entering export or some other relevant keyword in the keyword section.
once you have found the script click on the download button, once you have downloaded the script place it in a convenient location, then you need to do a file > run tcl tk from within HyperMesh. make sure you have a relevant model loaded in HyperMesh when you run the script.

Re: Run a Hyperxtrude file in Hyperstudy through nominal run option
HI Abhishek,
Can you let us know the solver version you are using? If it is 11.0 please upgrade to 12.0

Re: Running OSSmooth FEA Reanalysis with Optistruct
Kontrollturm,
I am afraid the FEA reanalysis option is only available with the HyperMesh GUI.

Hello Rahul,
I have used both the versions but my problem still exists. Can you help me?
Thanks a lot for replying.

Re: Converting MAT 8 to MAT 9
Ok. makes sense. I will stick to 2D shell elements for the skin. FOr the core however, is it possible to just assign the shear values in MAT 9?

Segmentation Violation Error in NLGEOM with composite shell
I want to conduct NLGEOM nonlinear buckling analysis in Optistruct 12.0 (which then employs RADIOSS as solver) with composite shell properties. (PCOMP or /PROP/TYPE11)
Segment Violation error occurs when having more than 8 layers (8 integration points). Below this number, everything is fine. I already set stacksize=64m but it did not help.
Running with optistruct/radioss 11.0 however shows no segmentation error (after deleting v.11 incompatible elements i.e. RBARs) . Nevertheless as nonlinear response optimization with ELSM is eventually aimed for, 12.0 version is what I would like to work with. Input/output files are attached.

Re: Segmentation Violation Error in NLGEOM with composite shell
Thanks for your quick Response!
Only "Geometry" part of these deleted Connections is leftover. These have nth to do with the .fem model; you can try to delete these failed geometry and run the model. It will work if you change Laminate size down to 8 layers!
P.S. RADIOSS 12.0.202 is my current version

Re: Segmentation Violation Error in NLGEOM with composite shell
Analysis is running fine at my end with RADIOSS 12.0.212.
can you update to the latest patch and check if it works fine at your end?

Re: Converting MAT 8 to MAT 9
I dont see a way to directly to input shear values in MAT9.
