Hello,
I'am currently writing an matlab skript to run multiple Optistruct jobs. But I cant find any command option for Optistruct to close itself, if the job is done.

Close Optistruct when Job is finished

Re: Close Optistruct when Job is finished
Kontrollturm,
I assume there is a special reason for doing this through a script, because the HyperWorks Solver Run Manager can run multiple jobs,
In help see Altair OptiStruct > User's Guide > Running OptiStruct > HyperWorks Solver Run Manager > Submitting Multiple Solver Runs
I can suggest that the usual way of doing your requirement in any script is to first - extract the process ID of the Optistruct process then second - kill that process.

Running OSSmooth FEA Reanalysis with Optistruct
Hello,
my 2nd Problem is, that I am trying to run an FEA reanalysis with the Optistruct solver. I'am trying to use the *.oss parameterfile with the following inputs.
input_file XXX
output_file XXX.nas
output_code 3
autobead 1 0.300 1
isosurface 1 3 0.300
laplacian_smoothing 10 30.000 1
But I dont now how to start the FEA Reanalysis and not the Geometry option. Do i have to start the FEA Reanalysis in HyperMesh?
Best regards

Re: Close Optistruct when Job is finished
Thanks for your reply,
I am trying to run an Job in optistruct from matlab and when its finished, the Matlabscript will continue. Now there are 2 ways.
1) Matlab waits until Optistruct was closed (Thats why i wanted to autoclose it after finishing the job)
2) or im checking the result files for the "Job is finished" line. (Poor performance, complex)

Averagaging method for stress values in Optistruct
Hello,
Which averaging method of stress will software follow, If I define a stress constraint for Optimization?
If I want to check whether my structure is crossing yeild value or not, which averaging method of stress(with different layer combinations) gives the right result?

Re: Running OSSmooth FEA Reanalysis with Optistruct
Kontrolturm,
To do an FE reanalysis, which is basically to analyse your optimized shape,
You can just go to Post > ossmooth within HyperMesh, select the input deck and the .sh file (for topology results for eg),
make sure the option is set for FE reanalysis and then run OSSmooth, this will create an input deck, with the optimized shape applied with the same loads and boundary conditions (that you used before you ran the optimization).
You can then run this deck in Optistruct to analyse your optimized shape
Here is an example where I do a reanalysis on a topology model,
First I prepare a topology optimization model
Clear my session and Then run ossmooth with the necessary parameters
Then run the analysis on the input deck

Re: Running OSSmooth FEA Reanalysis with Optistruct
Hello,
thanks for your reply. Thats exaclty what I am trying to do, but just without the HyperMesh Gui. I want to create an *.oss parameterfile to run it from the Optistruct program.

Re: Averagaging method for stress values in Optistruct
Hi Sreejesh,
The value you give is element stresses without any averaging method.

Re: Problems in Optimization - zero mass
Hello, I have a further question concerning the supports. I want to support the part with support 1 and support 2. Support 1 and support 2 should have different d.o.f. . I've tried to do that by inserting two features within the Load Collector. However I encountered a problem by defining the Loadsteps. I can only choose for SPC and MPC one Load Collector feafure respectively. If I choose support 1 as SPC and support 2 as MPC I get in the solver view following error message" A fatal error has been detected during input processing:
*** ERROR # 23 ***
ID 7 used on Case Control data MPC or MPCADD is missing in bulk data.".
Can you help me here how to apply two different supports on a part?

Node Coordinates, Stress in Output Table
Hi,
i want to create an Output Table with Optistruct. It should contain Node Coordinate and Element, Stress, connected Nodes, Component.
Can you give me a hint, how to do this?

Converting MAT 8 to MAT 9
Hello all:
I am designing a sandwich door for the A350 as part of my master thesis. I have completed the 2D modeling with MAT8 material card and PCOMP property card.
[img][/img]
Also, i have completed the 3D modeling of the door with PSOLID property. However I am running into problems for the MAT9 card.
[img][/img]
For MAT 9, there is no option for giving in the youngs modulus, Gij is the property matrix it says but fails to clarify which is the youngs modulus and shear modulus. Only thing I can understand is the poisson ratios. Could you clarify this a further please and aid me in the conversion.
Thank you
Sim

Re: Converting MAT 8 to MAT 9
Hi Sim,
You can use MAT9 ORT instead of MAT9 for solid orthotropic material.

Re: Element forces in each iteration of NLSTAT
Hi,
I have swtichted to NLGEOM, however now I am facing the problem "error#4002 segmentation violation", it looks like the number of elements is the problem, I have deleted half of the structure and it runs the job, however the full structure is not working. Is there any limit for elements NLGEOM solver? (Ps: the structure has 600.000 elements)
I am interested in the prestressed cable behavior, I have used CGAP with flip card and I would like to check the forces on elements during the analysis. When using NLSTAT the elforces are 0. I would like to ask how would you recommend to model the cables to avoid NLGEOM and still be able to read the forces on the CGAP element.

Re: Problems in Optimization - zero mass
Hi,
the error says, the load step is not refering the right MPC/MPCADD. Could you please check the load step(S) whether you had referenced right loads nad BCs?
if not, please share the files using the dropbox link in title signature below.

Re: Node Coordinates, Stress in Output Table
Kontrollturm,
This is possible through the GUI in HyperView during postprocessing, using the query panel. would that help or
Are you looking for optistruct to output such a table directly (csv file for example) ?

Re: Node Coordinates, Stress in Output Table
Hello,
yeah I saw that possibilty in HyperView, but I want to create this Output with an Script and HyperView has no Macro function for tcl, unlike HyperMesh. So it is really hard for me, to create a tcl macro to create that table. Thats why i wanted to do it in HyperMesh. Maybe you have an better idea.

Re: Element forces in each iteration of NLSTAT
Hi Vitor,
can you increase NINC in NLPARM and check if that converges the analysis?
could you please paste the entire rad_0001.out file from your working directory?

Re: Problems in Optimization - zero mass
Hi,
I think the main question here is how to combine different constraints (= supports) with varying degree of freedoms into one loadcollector (as only one SPC entry is allowed in the load step).
There are two way to solve this task. One is to simply create multiple constraints into one loadcollector by
- creating the loadcollector and make sure that it is set to current (right click in the model browser)
- Creating a first constraint (BCs -> create -> constraing), by clicking the node and selecting the DOFs (e.g. 1-6)
- Creating a second constraint by clicking a second node and selecting the DOFs (e.g. 3-6)
- Creating a third constraint etc.
There is the second option to divide the constraints with different DOFs into two or more loadcollectors (one for each constraint), but there is no need to do so. However if you want to do this for some reason, create a first loadcollector with the first constraint, the second load collector with the second constraint etc.
Finally create a final load collector and choose card image = SPCADD. When creating this, make sure the "card edit" option in the load collector window is active. The SPCADD card will then reference the loadcollectors 1...n and combine them into one support. This SPCADD collector needs then to be chosen in the load step.
