how one can decide number of element or element size?

while finding the resultant of the following component i came across some issues..that case 1) the component with 20 elements and 50 as element size gives 72.5N/mm2 as stress..and case 2) the component with 10 elements and 100 as element size gives 68.2 N/mm2 as stress.. and hand calculation gives 72.92 as shown in fig..my question is how one can decide number of element or element size..

hi Syed, can't be sure. If you get any extra surface, you may have to edit the surface using different options available in HyperMesh (like quick edit, surface edit, etc..) Some times it doesn't matter if you leave the mid surface as it is and this decision purely depends on the loads, BCs and analysis you are running.

Syed, Please use the reply option in the top right hand corner instead of quick reply option when you need to upload images.

adwaitmane, To see the fe style icon (the meshed cube described above) for each component, you need to right click on the model browser and go to configure browser, once here, check the fe style and if necessary the geom style check boxes Image

Linus, This is perhaps due to the parameters chosen (click on parameters button after setting autobead to none in the ossmooth panel) of the non design element processing section. Can you upload the images once again as the images are missing/not displayed correctly, in the above post.

Hello, My name is Samuel Monge, and I'm using HyperWorks to optimization of FSAE chassis car, and I don't know how to export to .IGES or .STL my topology optimization. If you could help I thank you soo much. Regards.

Dear PrakashPagadala Thank you so much for your always help. I am also using the Radioss V12.0 Block Format. When I go to analysis page--> Control Cards. I still can not get the buttons. Maybe I am wrong about the Hyperworks Version. I attached all the steps I used in the pictures below. Could you tell me what is the mistake? Thank you so much. Sun ImageImageImage

Hi Samuel, Once the topology optimization is completed, you can then go to post > ossmooth (set autobead to none) and then open the .fem file here (the ,sh file will be automatically loaded) make sure the option is set to geometry and then run ossmooth. See - Altair OptiStruct > User's Guide > Design Interpretation - OSSmooth: Running OSSmooth

AcuSolve: Default pressure setting

Hi! Who know what is default pressure in AcuSolve? If I want to do a simulation at atmospheric pressure 1 atm (101325 Pa), do I need to enter the value in any section? such as at absolute pressure offset or pressure initial condition (in Nodal Initial Condition)?? Thanks Image

Hi Sun, Please update the Application to latest patch. You can download the update from http://www.altairhyperworks.com/ClientCenterHWUpdateDownload.aspx?pro_cat=HyperWorks you should register before you proceed to download and the Support forum credentials are not valid.

If you are doing incompressible both these settings are not required. Absolute pressure offset would be necessary for compressible cases likes workshop5 compressible nozzle. Nodal Initial conditions for pressure are generally not required. NIC typically help in convergence. Generally I would use them for temperature and eddy viscosity (at times for velocity, it is a flow only in one direction).

In addition to that, most CFD cases are velocity/mass flux at inlet and pressure =0 (relative to atmosphere) at outlet. Most not all...

4.5 How to Decide Element Length (IT IS THE EXTRACT FROM HYPERMESH DTUDENT GUIDE.) 1) Based on previous experience with a similar type of problem (successful correlation with experimental results). 2) Type of analysis: Linear static analysis could be easily carried out quickly with a large number of nodes and elements, but crash, non-linear, CFD, or dynamic analysis takes a lot of time. Keeping control on the number of nodes and elements is necessary. 3) Hardware configuration and graphics card capacity of the available computer. An experienced CAE Engineer knows the limit of the nodes that can be satisfactorily handled with the given hardware configuration. Suppose you are a part of a newly formed CAE group (no clear guidelines are available, and there is no experienced person in the group) : In the first run, accept the default element length. Mesh with the basic rules of thumb discussed in this book. Then run the analysis and observe the high stress regions. Remesh the localized areas of high stress (with smaller element length) and solve again. Compare the difference in the original and the new results. Continue the process until convergence is achieved (5 to 10% difference in strain energy / maximum stress value). Image 72.92N/MM2. THIS IS IT'S HAND CALCULATION..CAN U TAKE OUT A LITTLE BIT OF TIME AND EXPLAIN THE COMPONENT WITH HIGH STRESS IS SAFE OR WITH LOW STRESS AS I'M GETTING CONFUSE THAT STRESS IS ALSO NOTHING BUT RESISTANCE FORCE OFFERED BY A BODY WHEN EXTERNAL FORCE ACTING ON IT...WHEN RESISTANCE FORCE IS MORE (AS HERE 72.5N/MM2) WHAT MEANS THAT? WHEN COMPARED TO RESISTANCE FORCE IS LESS (AS HERE 68.2) WHAT MEANS THIS? ..AND AS SAID IN THIS SECTION
run the analysis and observe the high stress regions. Remesh the localized areas of high stress (with smaller element length) and solve again
IF HIGH STRESS AREA IS RE MESHED WITH SMALL ELEMENT SIZE I'M GETTTING HIGH STRESS i;e;72.5N/mm2.. I HOPE I HAVE NOT BORED YOU.. THANK YOU.

Hi Hawk, To use the LEVEL SET method, you will need to mention this option in the DTPL card, When you are pre processing for a topology optimization, you will be creating a DTPL card (the options entered from the topology panel will be entered into a card called DTPL) you will need to open your optistruct input deck using a text editor, and add a continuation line with the LEVELSET keyword, please see an example in the image in the below post Please also see the DTPL documentation, Altair OptiStruct > Reference Guide > Input Data > Bulk Data Section > DTPL
