Sir, I have seen Topology Optimisation related help document, but I `m unable to find solution to my particular problem. In my case, I want my model after solving should create the brace elements(pipes) from the design space (and let the space remain vacant where stress concentration is low). So I`m confused about how to convey the software about the cross section, pipe longitudinal direction, joint formation with geometrical constraints, etc. Consider brace elements as some diagonal elements for some rectangular shaped structure(main structure). There can be two diagonals elements, so I want to keep only one diagonal element which is sufficient to keep my structure safe under limits of static stress. My question is what should be the design space variable, should it be the entire area enclosed by the rectangular structure (a rectangle)? or should I create (model n then mesh) both possible diagonals with pipe cross-section profiles intersecting each other and making joints with the main structural elements? In short I want that software should know that topology is to be achieved with all STRAIGHT pipe elements.

Acceleration vs. frequency as input to frequency response analysis

Hello. I have gone through tutorial RD2000, RD2010 and RD2050. Input for these tutorials were force vs. frequency. Then, I change input to acceleration vs. frequnecy, the solver shows error. Did it require additional steps or need to define another cards?

Sorry for my late response. We are using Catia and fibersim. But in fibersim i am absolute beginner and dont know, how to import the files from HyperMesh. Do you have a step by step tutorial or can you give me some hints?

tutorial model files

From direct mail
I was going to do some hypermesh in class, and was looking for some tutorials the students could work through. I found this: http://www.altairhyperworks.com/(S(3fu2zyrlbyi03xcofiue25jd))/hwhelp/Altair/hw11.0/help/hwtut/hwtut.htm?hypermesh_tutorials.htm but the files they would need are not included in the install (it says they are in <install_directory>\tutorials\hm\). Am I missing something? Are there other tutorials available?

Hi , The model files referred in the tutorial will be placed in the install folder when you install HyperWorks Help. Image In addition you can download all the tutorials and the relevant model files froom our client center here http://www.altairhyperworks.com/hwhelp/Altair/hw12.0/index.aspx

Hi, you can export files from HyperMesh to FiberSim format. Use export-->Geometry and change the format to FiberSim to export to FiberSim data. you have to update the HyperWorks application to 12.110 update. FiberSim export is available after updating to 12.110 or above. Image

Eric, OK, However I would just like to remind you again to install and use the windows 8 compatible HyperWorks student edition whenever you are using windows 8 machines. Send us the files when you have finished preprocessing again so we can compare results.

Hi, I got these error messages. For the first two I assume there were material properties missing?: ** INPUT ERROR IN MATERIAL LAW DESCRIPTION : -- MATERIAL ID : 1 -- MATERIAL TITLE : Stahl IS LOWER THAN OR EQUAL TO ZERO ERROR ID : 683 ** INPUT ERROR IN MATERIAL LAW DESCRIPTION : -- MATERIAL ID : 2 -- MATERIAL TITLE : FVW IS LOWER THAN OR EQUAL TO ZERO ERROR ID : 307 Though, when I add missing properties in the material "Stahl", I get these messages: ERROR ID : 61 ** ERROR IN MATERIAL/ELEMENT DEFINITION (NUMBER) DESCRIPTION : INVALID MATERIAL ID=0 FOR BRICK ELEMENT ID=11448 ERROR ID : 59 ** ERROR IN PROPERTY/ELEMENT DEFINITION (NUMBER) DESCRIPTION : INVALID PROPERTY ID=0, FOR BRICK ELEMENT ID=11448 I get these messages for every single element that has the material "Stahl" assigned. For me it looks like there were no material or property assigned to the elements, but both are assigned. Also I need to deaktivate checking for the determinant: ** INPUT ERROR IN MATERIAL LAW DESCRIPTION : -- MATERIAL ID : 2 -- MATERIAL TITLE : FVW DETERMINANT OF MATERIAL MATRIX IS LESS THAN 0. CHECK CONSTITUTIVE LAW And is the a List with the error IDs? I can't find any... Thanks in advance!

Dear Support, Bearing in mind that the structural problem must be solved several times in the optimization process I would like to ask if it is possible to define number of processors and allocate memory for in-core solutions in HyperStudy ? (as we can do for radioss). Best regards Vitor

Hi, what property and material law are you using? can you please check if the material and property assigned are compatible with each other? if they are compatible, we may need your model file and .out file. Please use the dropbox below shown in the signature to share the files.

I am using MAT LAW 12 with the property P6 MAT LAW 2 with the property P14 I think they should pe compatible. I am sending the files to the box! Thanks!

Differences between analytic and Radioss solutions in modal transient dynamic analysis

Hey, we have a mass applied to a spring, which is clamped on the other side. At the mass we apply a Cosinus load [ F*COS(OMEGA*t) ] F = 500 N OMEGA = 1 1/s t = 0 - 8 s [DT 0.01] Now we do a modal transient dynamic analysis and look at the history of displacements with the help of Hyperview. The screenshot shows the result in HyperView. Now the problem is, that the analytic results are not the same. Our sping has a rate (k) of 500 N/m and the apllied mass has a weigth (m) of 10 kg. So we calculate with the following equations: omega=sqrt(k/m) set-up ratio: eta=OMEGA/omega magnification function: V=sqrt(1/(1-eta^2)^2) The whole system is undamped. The equation for the displacement is: x(t)=(F/k)*V*cos(OMEGA*t) for the maximum amplitude: cos(OMEGA*t)=1. Thank you for your effort. Image

Hi, I see few shell elements with a solid property assigned. this is a compatibility violation. Please delete the shell elements if they are not necessary and run the model. If the shell elements are required, please assign a compatible property for shell elements.
