thank you for your quick reply I mean something like that. Submodelling is an interesting idea. But it wont work for me. Since I want to do changes to the entire structure (wall thickness, mesh, material model ect). So these change would clearly affect the section forces from the sub-modelling. Maybe you remember my primary field of interest, the modelling of thinwalled honeycomb structures. I want to apply periodic boundary conditions to a unit cell... thus simulating a larger structure with only one cell.... For that, I have to link the displacment on opposite sides of my unit cell. Essentially I have to apply non-zero displacements, to the edges of unit cell. In ABAQUS it is supposedly very easy to apply these periodic boundary conditions. regards Ralf
